Flora & Fauna.

The usual dryness of the southern insular area and the terrain conditions, determine the presence of vegetation, with important examples characteristic of the basal ground level. As one climbs towards the heights of the municipality, an important mass of pines appears, to finally arrive at the underbrush of the high mountains.

Protected Natural Spaces

Natural Monument of the Sentinel Mountain (La Montaña Centinela).

Crown Forest Natural Park . Shared with Los Realejos, Adeje, Vilaflor, Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, Garachico, Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava, La Guancha, San Juan de la Rambla Granadilla, Arico, Fasnia, El tanque, Güímar and Candelaria.

A large sector of the municipality is found inside the Crown Forest Natural Park , in an area with a good pine tree representation. Included in this protected area is the Seven Fountain Volcano (volcán de Siete Fuentes), the first of three eruptive centres, that between 1704 and 1705, sprang up in the central area of Tenerife. In scarcely five days a volcanic cone rose to 37 m of height, with a lava spillage of 1200 m of maximum flow.

River Canyon Natural Spot (Paraje Natural del Barranco del Río).

A large deep canal descending from the Degollada de Guajara, along the dorsal slope of Las Cañadas.

Scientific Interest Place of Tabaibal del Porís.

River Canyon (Barranco de Rio)

A small stream gurgles at over 1 000 metres of altitude all year round.

Canyon of Tamadaya (Barranco de Tamadaya).
